The RGP May Wrap-up
Dear Captain Planet, Mother Earth, and our team here at RGP, it is with great pleasure that I bring to you the RGP May Wrapup. There were highs and lows this month, but we remain convinced that by continuing to clean bags of trash, we can create the environmental impact that not only wildlife deserves, but also our beautiful planet as a whole. Without further ado, let’s get into it.
May started off as hot as potentially any month in the history of RGP. Steve Aoki put up about an hour of good music, and myself, Dan and Mike put up 1 bag of trash in the mix. Inspiring stuff and speaks of what was yet to come.
Following this, we checked out Jupiter. Not much trash in the dunes, but clearly excellent nature. Perhaps the best of the month. The area shown is a bird sanctuary near Juno Beach, which was also home to a variety of interesting plants. Picture available as an NFT on opensea for those who can’t figure out how to copy and paste into Microsoft Word. Hoping for some non- tech savvy (or incredibly tech savvy) readers out there.
Next up: Graphic Image Below !!!!!!!
Pictured above is a hero. Simon Burse. He who played through the pain to complete the legendary Bloody Sock Clean. Just as did sports legends of old, Burse toughed it out, like a man, and persisted to clean nonetheless. People like this are what Earth needs, and we should all follow by his example.
Look at that grimace on his face, resting mid bag. And of course, solid teammate Mac there by his side, supporting and playing quite well himself. When a team comes together like this, we can clean 5 bags of trash and leave the planet in the best shape possible. Take notes people — need to see more of this tenacity in June.
Finally, we bring you to the end of May. Beautiful Memorial Day weekend, and the unofficial start of summer. Pictured above is beautiful Waveny Park in New Canaan, CT. Florida has treated us well, but these are the kind of scenes you only get in the northeast. For real — enjoy it. This time of year up there is spectacular, and is one of the many reasons we love nature so much.
To close out the month, we had a strong performance by Kelly and Katie, electing to clean trash after celebrating Memorial Day rather than slacking off, as it would have been easy to do. Respect. We were made better by the people around us this month.
In summary, a high activity month. Lots of bags. Lots of opportunities. High conversion rate. Plenty of chances to clean, but also plenty of chances to be better. Let’s review the highs and lows.
Highs:
- Sunfest. Goes without saying
- The Bloody Sock Clean
- Waveny
- Pretty much everything pictured above
- But also, 2 special shoutouts:
and,
As the caption says, found a dollar bill in this field. Nature pays. Even in unspectacular places, you just might find spectacular results. I have yet to spend it but we’ll find something cool.
Lows:
Not many, but a few;
The night after attending a Celtics game, elected to attend a concert. Had no time to clean in the morning, because sleep is important. Shoot for 8 hours if possible. I had an opportunity to clean at this event, but I was afraid of taking a full bag of trash into an Uber, and so I did not clean on this day. Right before getting into the Uber, passed an empty garbage can. Need to be better next time — this was an excellent content opportunity.
Took this unspectacular picture during a Monday clean. Normal bag of trash. Accidentally stepped in some fire ants and spent the next several hours in my suit with a very itchy leg. We went into immediate damage control mode and told almost nobody until days later, but this was a low point.
Finally, no picture to show for it, but I took a day off over Memorial Day weekend. Probably could have cleaned, but every man needs a break. I won’t beat myself up over that one.
The goal for June, as every month, is to clean every day. However, I’m beginning to realize that it’s a high bar, and rest is OK. So instead, the goal is to miss only 1 day, which will inevitably require powering through adversity at least once. Also, it would be great to have a guest clean, where someone sends a video of them cleaning trash. DM it to me on IG at theregrowthproject, and of course feel free to subscribe on our patreon to support what we do.
And it would be great to post some more blogs this month. Let me know if there’s any topics you’d dig.
