One Life-Changing Way to Increase Your Surface Area for Good Luck

“But Sam (that’s my name,) what is my surface area for good luck?”

Well, kind reader, I’m very glad you asked. It’s a concept that has changed my life entirely.

Your surface area for good luck is the amount of chances you give yourself to have good luck.

Let me give you some examples.

You have two people. One named Dan. One named Sue. They’re both nice people.

Dan works from home, spends most of the day working or chilling, orders his groceries to his door, and plays video games in his spare time.

Sue goes on a walk in the morning, then goes to the office to work, then goes to the library afterwards for a bit, and then goes to the grocery store and sometimes meets up with a friend later.

Even if you’ve never heard the concept before, I bet you can guess who has a greater surface area for good luck.

Sue every day x 1 million.

Why?

If you get out into the world, and spend time doing things, you have the opportunity to experience random chance.

Who knows what interesting person you might meet?

Who knows what fun event you might stumble across?

Who knows if you might stumble on a 2 for 1 deal on eggs at the store?

By going out and doing things, you have the chance to experience all these “serendipitous” occurrences.

Even if you live an easy life at home, like our friend Dan, you don’t leave yourself room for serendipity to occur.

You stand a better chance running into this monument outside of your house than inside it

Let me illustrate one real world example.

Earlier this week, I didn’t get a job I wanted. Sucks. I was unhappy.

Having said that, I was determined to not let it affect my day.

In fact, I was determined to get out there and have an even better day than otherwise.

So I trekked on down to Hypoluxo Scrub Natural Area instead of going on my normal cleanup, to walk around in some nature.

Saw some cool stuff, nothing special.

Until this.

Gopher Tortoise

I ran into this Gopher Tortoise, a rare and threatened species. And just hung out with it.

Watched it eat some nuts and waddle around in the brush. They’re not Usain Bolt but are impressively fast for a creature of their nature.

If you don’t go out and see the world around you, you don’t see things like the gopher tortoise.

You pass up on experiences, chance encounters, life & business opportunities, and so much more by laying around.

Next time you say to yourself “I never get lucky” or “I wish something good would happen to me for once,” remember rule #1.

Increase your surface area for good luck.

GET OUT INTO THE WORLD.

It’s too big, and has too much opportunity, to be wasted by not getting out there and experiencing it.
